They must chose 2 items from the list. There are two sections. The top section is repeatable 1x by each child. The bottom section can only be done 1x for the week. I've adjusted the list several times as I've watched how they learn to work the system. I don't want the chores to take longer than 5-10 minutes each, but I don't want it to be something they can try to manipulate.
For example, I wrote a chore that said, clean Mimi's room of toys or clean the family room of toys. So my oldest would look at which room was the most clean, and say that was the room he was cleaning. The problem was the room was already clean except for 2 toys! So after letting the kids show me all the ways to cheat the system, I've made adjustments to fit my family needs.
Good luck with creating your own system :) Don't be afraid to let the kids show you how well or not well the system is working. The list should always be fluid, especially as the kids get older, you move to a new place, and the needs of your family changes.
